Term 4 - The FIRST AID CERTIFICATE ASSESSMENT
Term 4
Ms V had planned to take us to investigate DROWNING with a visit to Garnock Pool. However, due to a morning water aerobics session we cannot access the whole pool. This is necessary to allow non swimmers or weak swimmers access to a section of the pool that they feel confident in. Therefore this session will not happen. Ms V is still investigating the possibility of us all having an AFTER school trip to the pool where we could have a chance to practice some basic life saving/first aid that are specific to water incidents.
Ms V was also looking at the possibility of visiting Lochwinnoch water sports centre where we could look at producing an imovie on Drowning OR water incidents and how best to utilise Basic Life Saving Skills near water. This approach has still to be confirmed.
Failing this, we will still investigate drowing theoretically, as well as set up and deal with PRACTICAL SCENARIOS for a possible Car Crash/Fire emergency.
Assessment for Term 4 will be a teacher led practical test on the physical skills needed to treat for a variety of the 17 injuries/ailments and conditions that we have covered over the year. Your practical performance will count for 70% of the score. The other 30% will be based on observations made throughtout the year considering the quality of your written work in your jotter, your effort to contribute in class, and the amount of completed work tasks you have handed in.
By culminating the evidence from each pupils' term 1 written test, term 2 oral test, term 3 peer assessment, blog comments and personal critique of study aids and term 4's practical assessment , Ms V will decide who will be awarded their First Aid Certificate. This award will last up to 3 years and be a great addition to any CV or job application.
We will finish by researching careers and jobs that may require or benefit from FIRST AID skills, knowledge or certificates.
For additional challenges, we may investigate 'COMPLIMENTARY' or 'ALTERNATIVE' medicines such as homeopathy, aromatherapy, reflexology and acupuncture.
